Become James Bond and destroy the evil drug smuggler Sanchez who murdered your best friend's bride. Licence To Kill is a "breakneck" action game that closely follows the James Bond film. It was originally released for DOS and then ported to the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, Atari 8bit (800/XL/XE), MSX and ZX Spectrum.

007 - Licence to KillSTORY / GAMEPLAY
The powerful drug dealer Sanchez has murdered your best friend's bride and now you're out to take him down. Show no mercy as you battle him on land, at sea and in the air. You will take control of helicopters, planes and tankers and perform death-defying stunts in midair. The game features six levels, a movie-like story line and action, colorful graphics and great animation (especially on the 16bit versions). The difficulty is set tough enough to make this relatively short game last a good while. After completing the game, the difficulty increases to prolong the game's last-ability.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The level design is great and the game is played from a top-down perspective. Several details like buildings, city blocks, are nicely drawn and remind me of Taito's Flying Shark arcade shooter! I also liked the digitized loading screen from the original box art of the movie. Compared to the other 8bit versions, the CPC seems to have been ported from the ZX, so the action is quite slow and the gameplay area is quite small but with nice and bright colors (which may get frustrating sometimes as enemy bullets and other obstacles are not easily visible!) The sound is rather poor on the CPC (and in all 8 bit versions). It features an intro music score from the original movie and only a few "dull" sound effects while playing.

Hardware information

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128CPU: ZiLOG Z80 4MHZ
MEMORY: 64 KB or 128 KB of RAM depending on the model (capable of being expanded to 512k using memory extension boards)
GRAPHICS: Motorola 6845 address generator, Mode 0: 160x200 / 16 colors, Mode 1: 320x200 / 4 colors, Mode 2: 640x200 / 2 colors, A colour palette of 27 colors was supported
SOUND: The CPC used the General Instrument AY-3-8912 sound chip, providing 3 channels Mono Sound (via internal speaker) but capable to offer Stereo Sound provided through a 3.5 mm headphones jack (with pretty impressive outcome!). Also, it is possible to play back digital sound samples at a resolution of approximately 5bit. This technique is very processor-intensive though.

Πολύ καλό παιχνίδι για τον CPC. Το είχα τότε και το είχα ευχαριστηθεί. Μου άρεσαν τα γραφικά του.
